Mo’Nique, looking gorgeous in a royal blue Tadashi Shoji gown, fittingly paid homage to Hattie McDaniel, the first African American to win an Oscar for 1939’s Gone With the Wind. “This is the color that Hattie McDaniel wore when she accepted her award,
this is the same flower, the gardenia, that Hattie McDaniel wore in her hair,” she said, adding that she felt “sexy, beautiful” in her exquisite attire. Mo’Nique was escorted to the swanky soiree by her husband, Sidney Hicks.
