Lady Gaga opens up about Michael Jackson

Of all of the revelations that Lady Gaga made on Larry King Live on June 1 — including the fact that she is “borderline positive” for lupus and nearly ruined her life with cocaine — perhaps the most poignant was that she was set to duet with Michael Jackson on his This Is It tour. “I was actually asked to open for Michael at The O2 [arena],” she told Larry. “There was some talk about lots of the openers doing duets with Michael onstage, but Michael’s death was devastating for me regardless of whether or not I was supposed to go on tour with him. He is such an inspiration and remarkable human being.” In fact, Gaga, who declared that she would “rather die onstage” than “under a palm tree,” went on to explain that her fixation on death — a recurring theme in her shows — stems from her idolization of such tragic icons as Michael and Princess Diana. “My fascination with the demise of the celebrity goes along with me watching these hugely iconic and amazing people that I have heralded and admired my whole life become destroyed — whether self-destroyed or destroyed by the media,” she said. But despite her blood-soaked performances, the outrageous star insisted, “I’m not interested in violence.”
