Joan Rivers sounds off on NBC late-night drama
January 29, 2010
It seems as if just about everyone has an opinion on Jay vs. Conan, so it
was only a matter of time before Joan Rivers contributed her two cents. Joan, who had a brief but tumultuous stint hosting her own late-night talk
show on Fox in the 1980s, offered her thoughts to Vanity Fair magazine
while at the Sundance Film Festival promoting a documentary about her life,
A Piece of Work. The always-opinionated diva says of Jay Leno, “I think people got a good look at him and realized he ain’t funny!” But don’t count Joan on Team Coco just yet. She quipped that Conan O’Brien getting dumped by NBC was the “luckiest thing that ever happened to him. He would have ended up a failure and let go. He’s walked away with $40 million — not tragic!” In a controversial decision by NBC, Conan’s stint as the host of The Tonight Show ended on January 22, while Jay is ready to take back the reins on March 1.
