The American Idol top nine took to the stage again this week, thanks to the judges’ save last week for Michael Lynche. And while the outcome this week was good for Michael, it wasn’t so good for fellow contestants Andrew Garcia and Katie Stevens, who were sent home in a double elimination.

Neither contestant was a stranger to being in the bottom three and while upset, they took the news gracefully. “I think the singing part was easy,” said Katie. “It was nerve-racking going into the judging.”

Many thought Andrew peaked in the Hollywood week rounds after a blazing rendition of Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up,” and his subsequent performances lacked personality. “They never hung out with me,” says Andrew. “If they had, they would have loved me — I guarantee.”

Both contestants admit having last season runner-up Adam Lambert as a mentor this week was inspirational. Adam also returned to the Idol stage with a visually-stunning performance of his new single ‘Whadda You Want From Me,” a spectacle that would have made Lambert collaborator Lady Gaga proud!
