DWTS0521 Evan Lysacek puts DWTS on ice!

The big Dancing With the Stars finale is just a few days away and no one is working harder than Top 3 finalist Evan Lysacek. Throughout the competition, Evan has been doing double duty on the dance floor and on the ice, as part of the Smucker’s Stars on Ice show currently touring the country. On May 20, Evan invited his DWTS cast mates to see what he does best at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. “I was nervous, anxious and excited, as I wanted to do a good job for them,” Evan told In Touch at the reception he hosted after the show. “Mark [Ballas] choreographed the number I did [to Michael Jackson’s “Man In The Mirror”], so I hope it resembled what he showed me several months ago.” Those on hand to support included Louis van Amstel, Buzz Aldrin, Damian Whitewood, Edyta Sliwinska, Mark Ballas and Chelsie Hightower, who sang Evan’s praises afterwards. “He was amazing,” Chelsie told In Touch after the show. “I was freaking out and wanted to jump out of my seat!”

While Evan is a featured skater in the show, leaving much of the performing to his celebrated skating co-stars, the mere mention of his name sent the crowd into a frenzy. “Hearing their cheers and feeling the connection keeps me going,” says Evan. “I have really loyal skating fans and that’s why it was important to do both things. I really wanted to do Dancing With the Stars and could have waited, but I wanted to be a part of this 10th season as they told me it would be a special cast, but no one could have anticipated we would be as close as we are.” But it’s still a competition: With the mirror ball trophy in his sights, Evan has no time to rest. Partner Anna Trebunskaya has been putting him through his paces in preparation for next week’s four dances. “She was backstage,” he laughs. “And I am meeting her after this. We started at 8 a.m., I rushed to do this, and we are going to keep working after this.”

Despite the grueling schedule, Evan insists he and Anna are not putting too much pressure on themselves, because their goal was simply to make the finals. “That has always been my philosophy about competitions,” he says. “We will put in every effort and go without sleep, but we have to feel like we have done everything we can to win. If we don’t we are completely satisfied, as we couldn’t have done anymore.”

Will Evan take gold — or mirrors, in this case — next week? Tune in Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET to ABC’s Dancing With the Stars to see if he earns the No. 1 spot.
