A pal tells In Touch, the teen — who packed on the pounds late last year — enlisted the help of a nutritionist, chef and her old personal trainer, Harley Pasternak, to whip herself into bikini-ready shape ahead of her recent Hawaiian getaway with boyfriend Liam Hemsworth. “Miley probably spent $50,000 to lose 15 pounds in a few weeks,” the friend says. “She didn’t care what it cost as long as she looked good!”

A key bill currently before the U.S. Congress, the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), and its companion bill in the Senate, the Protect IP Act (PIPA), need to be torpedoed ASAP.

At THG, we normally refrain from such overt political messages, but the fact is these bills would censor content and impose harmful regulations on millions of people.

Legions of Internet users and entrepreneurs oppose SOPA and PIPA, and for good reason. They would enable the government to – indiscriminately – regulate the web.

If these bills pass, which is a real threat, the web will be transformed dramatically. Not only are the livelihoods of sites like THG at risk, but behemoths like Google.

In a nutshell, the bill would enable easy, and unnecessary blocking of entire sites. Small ones won’t have sufficient resources to defend themselves against corporate giants.

Big media companies may seek to cut off funding for competitors, even if copyright isn’t infringed. Millions will be suppressed, strong-armed and blacklisted – LEGALLY.

Combating piracy of intellectual property is a worthwhile goal, but there are fair, effective means of achieving it without broad government overreach into our lives.

SOPA and PIPA are not it. In fact, they will do just the opposite, quashing the innovation of small businesses everywhere while rewarding a select few arbitrarily.

The only PIPA we like is Pippa Middleton. The only SOPA we care about is … we have no joke for that one. It hits so close to home, we can’t even think straight.

A series of disturbing incidents have friends of Taylor Armstrong wondering: does this reality star belong in rehab?

Leaving the question of who the heck would be friends with Taylor Armstrong aside, Radar Online cites an episode captured for The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in which Armstrong gets so drunk that she climbs into a suitcase. Elsewhere, she apparently stumbled out of a restaurant last week, struggling to the point where a witness said:

“Judging by the way she was staggering, she was very drunk. She couldn’t stand up without help and was being held up by her friend as she walked to the car. She looked absolutely wasted.”

An insider adds that Taylor doesn’t drink every day – but when she does drink, it’s always in excessive amounts and the results are rarely pretty.

“Taylor’s closest friend and advisers have told her that she needs to go to rehab,” this source says “Taylor admits that alcohol has become her crutch in dealing with Russell’s suicide, and coping with the drama of being on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills…

… but she is refusing to go to rehab, primarily because of [daughter] Kennedy.”

That’s sweet. Taylor will profit from a number of interviews regarding Kennedy’s late father, but, hey, at least she draws the line somewhere. And that place, allegedly, is choosing NOT to make herself into a better person.

Award show season is in full effect! You know what that means — gorgeous hair and drool-worthy makeup looks from your favorite stars, of course! Highlights from the Golden Globes include Emma Stone‘s cool chignon and Katharine McPhee‘s natural look. Hollywood’s top glam squad talent shared their inspiration, how-to steps and the L’Oréal Paris and Matrix products needed to recreate these to-die-for looks — so now you can get the same glam on for your next fancy fête!

For Emma, stylist Mara Roszak aimed to complement The Help star’s eggplant Lanvin gown with a similar edge and effortless style. “We stayed away from anything too romantic,” says Roszak. “The rougher texture was key in achieving the goal of the style — a strong feel while remaining feminine.” Meanwhile, makeup artist Lauren Andersen took a fresh-faced and youthful approach with Katharine. “This beauty look was very sweet,” Andersen says. “I used the flower, Baby’s Breath, as my inspiration for creating a look for Katharine that was simple and natural.”

Emma’s step-by-step how-to:

1. Starting with wet hair, applied Matrix Total Results Amplify Foam Volumizer ($15, matrix.com for salon locations).

2. Using your hands, rough-up dried hair to accentuate natural texture.

3. Used a 1” barrel curling iron, touch up natural wave throughout.

4. Take a dab of Matrix Total Results Curl Contouring Lotion ($15, matrix.com for salon locations) to tame any extra frizz throughout the hair — and to give it a bit more definition.

5. Pulled hair back loosely, letting the front of the hair and pieces around the face fall out naturally.

6. Twist ends of hair and pull back to create a loose, messy chignon in the back, letting the front of the hair and pieces around the face fall out.

7. Once hair was back and pinned, drop the hair into the messy bun shape, pinning and wrapping each piece individually.

8. To secure the style, use Biolage Freeze Fix Hair Spray ($15, matrix.com for salon locations).

9. This one’s optional, but Emma pinned a Lanvin hair accessory for extra glam.

Katharine’s step-by-step how-to:

1. To create the base for her look, Andersen started with Clé de Peau Beauté Refining Fluid Foundation (SPF 24).

2. Next, Andersen applied L’Oréal Paris Magic Smooth Soufflé Blush in Celestial ($13, drugstores) to the apples of Katharine’s cheeks for a soft, natural flush.

3. On the Smash star’s eyes, Andersen swiped L’Oréal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in Iced Latte ($8, drugstores) across the lids, blending it into the crease for a sultry, warm smoky eye.

4. With a light hand, Andersen also thinly lined the eyes with L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner in Brown ($9, drugstores) to deepen the look of lashes, which she coated with L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara ($9, drugstores).

5. Her lips? Andersen used Dior Rouge Contour Lip Liner in Linen and L’Oréal Paris Infallible Gloss 8HR in Petal ($10, drugstores).

6. Finally, Andersen finished Katharine’s look with a dusting of YSL Poudre Sur Mesure — a semi-loose powder in neutral to set the overall look.

It looks like America’s sweetheart is going back to the franchise that made her a quasi-star. Emily Maynard will be the star of The Bachelorette, according to reports!

“It’s official, Emily is the new Bachelorette,” an insider close to Emily tells Life & Style, which is not really official at all, but still. It’s been reported previously as well.

Moreover, in order to accommodate “ABC is even going to move filming to Charlotte [North Carolina, Emily's hometown]. It won’t be in Los Angeles at all.”

It’s been reported that ABC asked her to star in the next season of the series, despite her reluctance in early discussions, in large part based on her daughter.

She had fans convinced she wasn’t interested. Just last summer Emily Maynard wrote: “I don’t want to be The Bachelorette.” Perhaps she changed her mind?

Since ending her engagement with that stiff Brad Womack in May, the North Carolina stunner has been linked to Jeremy Shockey and Matt Nordgren.

She’s denied dating both … and has yet to confirm or deny that she’s going back on The Bachelorette this time. Stay tuned for an official confirmation. Probably.

UPDATE: People and other more reliable sources have now confirmed that Maynard signed on! Surprising, but a good fit for the show, we have to say … right?

UPDATE #2: Bentley Williams, who famously burned Ashley Hebert on her season of The Bachelorette by wooing her while admitting to cameras that he had hoped Emily was The Bachelorette instead, is interested in competing, according to People.

But here is some encouraging news: there’s something you can do about it.

Demi Lovato is one of a number of celebrities (Kristen Bell, Julianne Hough) taking part in the Teen for Jeans campaign, which asks people to drop off used jeans at their local Aeropostale to be donated to shelters in your community.

In exchange, the school that donates the most pairs will receive $5,000 and Aeropostale pants for every single student! Seems like a no-brainer, doesn’t it?

Ben Flajnik said he rejected Shawntel Newton on The Bachelor because it was only fair to the women he’d already met. Sounds nice … but was there another motive?

Namely the chance to get in Courtney Robertson‘s pants?

“I’m pissed. It’s very unfair to me. It’s not what I signed up for,” she said after Shawntel’s surprise return, threatening to pack her bags if Shawntel did not.

Later, after getting the first rose, she whined to Ben about “What’s-her-butt” and said that her return was “a lot.” Her displeasure with the events was clear.

THEN, after a fainting spell by loser Erika, Ben nixed Shawntel. Did Courtney’s veiled threat – or a more overt one we didn’t see during that interlude – influence him? Watch:

“There was a connection there with Ben and I and I think he just wasn’t being man enough to accept that,” Newton said after her dismissal Monday night.

“That’s great that he’s trying to be fair, but this is about someone you’re going to be with for life. I don’t think fair comes into play. I just feel so dumb.”

Not as dumb as viewers subjected to Courtney Robertson and some of the other women. Wow. Wonder what Ben thinks watching these episodes now.

On a side note, The Bachelor spoilers reported earlier this winter accurately predicted Shawny’s return and exit. Will the supposed winner be correct too?!

Khloe Kardashian may be feeling pressure to conceive, but she is not resorting to drugs to help with the process. At least not yet.

That’s the message this reality star sent out this week, in response to rumors that she’s undergoing fertility treatment to ensure her and Lamar Odom will soon have a Mason Dash to call their own.

“Because there is so much speculation here is my statement,” Kardashian Tweeted. “I am not at this time in my life considering any type of fertility treatments. If and when I do, I will shout it from the rooftops but for now its in Gods hands.”

That might be the most reasonable thing a member of this family has ever said.

Khloe and Lamar have never been shy about their desire to procreate. It goes all the way back to the fall of 2010, when Odom joked:

“We’re on it right now. And I’m having fun trying.”

Take this with a grain of salt, because the source has been less than reliable lately, but a new report in Us Weekly claims Rihanna and Chris Brown are hooking up!

With February 8 marking the three-year anniversary of Chris’ infamous assault of his then-girlfriend, relations between the two have definitely thawed since.

They’ve been exchanging not-so-secret Tweets and rumors suggest that Rihanna may really want him back. But Us takes it a step further with this claim:

Rihanna and Brown are secretly hooking up – and have been for some time!

The edgy, platinum-selling “We Found Love” singer and Brown “meet up very casually,” a Brown confidante says. “She comes to see him anytime she’s in L.A.”

“They can’t get enough of each other. I don’t see it ending well. Rihanna loves to live dangerously, and talking to and hooking up with Chris is all part of that.”

Somehow we’re not buying it.

Chris lays low for the most part, but Rihanna is photographed EVERYWHERE she goes and is enormously busy to boot. It would be pretty hard to pull that off.

Chris is also dating Karrueche Tran. Details. “He and Rihanna are just friends,” Brown’s rep says. “He’s not cheating.” Ri’s rep, meanwhile, had no comment.

Regardless of this report … SHOULD they get back together?
