Joran van der Sloot will be spending the next 28 years in prison. He pleaded guilty to murdering Stephany Flores this week and was sentenced in Peru today.
The court also ordered him to pay $75,000 in reparations to the family of the 21-year-old victim, who he killed after meeting her at a Lima casino in 2010.
Under Peru’s penal system, Van der Sloot could become eligible for parole after serving half of the sentence with good behavior, including work and study.
Prosecutors asked for a 30-year sentence for first-degree murder and theft in the killing of Flores, who died five years to the day after Natalee Holloway.
Holloway, who was last seen with Van der Sloot, disappeared in Aruba and was declared legally dead yesterday. Van der Sloot was the prime suspect.
Van der Sloot’s attorney for a lighter sentence because Van der Sloot suffering from PTSD relating to the anniversary of Holloway’s disappearance.
On Wednesday, Van der Sloot pleaded “anticipated conclusion of the process,” admitting he strangled Flores but denying it was at all premeditated.
According to van der Sloot, he killed Flores in a fit of rage after she discovered information on his laptop about his involvement in the Holloway case.

The U.S. Marines Corps has reportedly identified all four of the men in the now-infamous video in which they appear to be urinating on dead Taliban bodies.
All are reportedly part of a sniper team based in North Carolina.
The four belong to 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines, which returned to the U.S.A. last fall after a tour in Afghanistan. Of the 1,000-person battalion, seven were killed in action.
So far, the names of the men have not been released.
CBS News reports that the Marines urinating in the video had been showing off the video as a “war trophy” at their home base in Camp Lejeune in N.C.
At least two of the Marines have been interviewed by USMC officials, but are not being detained as of right now. It is unclear what disciplinary action they may face.
A rep for the White House said this morning that President Barack Obama is aware of the video, but would not say if he has actually seen it yet.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, among many, many others in the past 24 hours, has condemned the video, calling the action “deplorable behavior.”

The Twilight Saga star has been named the new spokeswoman for a fragrance from Balenciaga, as that brand’s creative director, Nicolas Ghesquière, said of the actress: “Kristen embodies the modernity of the new Balenciaga fragrance with her unique sensibility and intelligence.”
Referring to the company as “cool,” Stewart herself says of the honor:
“Balenciaga has always stood out to me. Even when I first began to consider fashion and admittedly rarely knew the brand I was wearing, I always recognized and loved Balenciaga.”

During a live video web chat with Marie Claire, Angelina Jolie revealed that she had a “complete meltdown” recently and that Brad Pitt found her crying in the shower.
When we heard that, several theories came to mind:
Turns out it was something much simpler: Nerves.
Before production began on her directorial debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey, she felt the task was too daunting: “I thought, ‘Who am I to take this on?’”
“I had a complete emotional breakdown in the shower and Brad [Pitt] found me crying,” Jolie revealed. “I felt this huge responsibility and I felt very small.”
“I didn’t plan to become a director, and I still have trouble saying I’m a director. I just wanted to tell this story and I ended up by default being the director.”
“It was a pleasure, to say the least, but I wonder if it would be a pleasure with another cast and crew, and a subject matter that wasn’t so special.”
Jolie’s film is nominated for a Golden Globe.

Well, this is a new way to garner attention.
Hulk Hogan told TMZ this week that he’s prepared to shave off his iconic mustache because he’s about to go on “some auditions.” While this may be meaningless to some, it’s downright apocalyptic to others.
“Not only would the removal of his lower nose foliage cause angels in heaven to die and fall to earth – as is written in biblical texts – but it would send a poor message to young people of Mustached American descent who wish to embrace the Mustached American experience,” said Dr. Aaron Perlut, Chairman of the American Mustache Institute, when told of Hogan’s plans.
Dr. Perlut hopes Hulk reconsiders, lest “mass chaos and deep bouts of depression” reign for all with facial hair.
This sounds rather extreme in our view. It’s not like Ron Swanson is threatening to shave. What do you think? Should Hulk Hogan axe his mustache?

Tila Tequila is back in the news.
So, she isn’t starring in a new sex tape. And, no, she is not being accused of murder.
Instead, the large-breasted former reality star is simply converting to Judaism. Of course.
“As time passed, I started to become more and more fascinated with Kabbalah, the culture, and the way of life of the reform Judaism religion,” Tila tells TMZ. “I just feel like the Jewish people have such a beautiful way about them, and I can’t wait to officially be Jewish! Shabbat Shalom.”
Will she go Orthodox? Nope. The woman who has partly made a living off participation in threeways says that direction is “a little hardcore for me.”

Beyonce, Jay-Z and Blue Ivy were living large last weekend. Birthing suite style.
The Lenox Hill Hospital birthing suite where Beyonce gave birth to her baby girl is, one could say, the Ritz-Carlton of birthing suites. Five-star stuff here.
TMZ reported, and a hospital employee subsequently confirmed, that the photo seen here is indeed of the “executive suite” where Blue was born …
The spacious room features four flat-screen TVs, gray and cream sofas, even brushed-chrome accents, mahogany walls and a fancy pants kitchenette.
Jay-Z, who already released a song for Blue, apparently kicked back on a cozy bed with plush sheets, a fluffy comforter and a private bedside table.
He deserved it – guys have child birth really rough.
Lenox Hill Executive Director Frank Danza said the superstar couple paid $800 per room per night to use the brand-new, never-before-used suites.
Not cheap, but a far cry from reports that they rented out a whole floor of the hospital for A MILLION DOLLARS. That’s just crazy talk right there.
NY State Health Department officials are investigating reports that the couple’s security personnel caused issues for other expectant moms and new parents.

Heather Locklear is going to be okay.
The former Melrose Place and Spin City star was hospitalized yesterday after her sister dialed 911 out of concern for Locklear’s well-being, following what officials have described as abuse of prescription medication and alcohol.
Fortunately, Locklear is now in stable condition. Hospital officials say she was sleeping comfortably by 8 p.m. PST and her parents have issued a statement that reads:
“She is in no danger and she’s going to be just fine.”
Phew. We wish the beautiful star a full recovery and hope she seeks the help it appears as though she needs.
