Jeff Bratton Confirms Split with Paula Abdul

January 7, 2012

Straight up, Jeff Bratton is telling us what went down with her and long-time boyfriend Paula Abdul.

Paula and I split in November,” the record label owner tells People. “It was an amicable thing. But between the final months of X Factor and my responsibilities with [my label] Cascine, there was little time for us.”

Abdul met Britton on a flight early last year and split time with him between her home in Los Angeles and his in New York.

The latter says he and the reality show judge remain “close” and “I’ll always be grateful for the time we shared as a couple.”

Katy Perry’s Parents on Divorce: A Gift From God!

Katy Perry’s parents are conservative Christian ministers, so you would assume they would be devastated by her divorce. If so, they’re definitely not showing it.

It’s been reported that Russell Brand filed for divorce in large part so Katy, who was raised in a devout Christian household, wouldn’t have to do so.

God works in mysterious ways, though, and in the eyes of Katy’s parents, her recent split from Russell is one of those ways. Say what now?

Because He used to the divorce to fill the rafters of their church, they say.

Katy Perry, Father Keith Hudson

Pastors Keith and Mary Hudson preached at Church On The Rise in Westlake, Ohio, on Wednesday, in an appearance advertised by the church.

Perry’s mom, Mary, speaking for the first time about the split, half-joked, “I’m sure Katy is trending on the internet just to get you to church tonight.”

“All over the world, who knows how God is bringing them in? The most important thing is you are here and God wants to put the fire in you in 2012.”

It is a solid glass-half-full attitude if nothing else.

Perry’s dad Keith added, “What has taken place in my daughter’s life has opened many opportunities to go in and be with guarded and gated people.”

“God has given us a new platform to go in and meet people – and they like us because you know what, we are cool. We are not threatening.”

They do actually sound pretty cool.

SIDE NOTE / FUN FACT: Katheryn Elizbaeth Hudson uses her mom’s maiden name, Perry, because she felt Katy Hudson would be confused with Kate Hudson.

According to reports, a video was shown beforehand featuring the Hudsons with Katy. The Hudsons are scheduled to appear tomorrow at a church in Georgia. This video (below) is posted on the church’s site promoting the appearance:

Newt Gingrich Calls Barack Obama the “Food Stamp President”

The campaign of Republican Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is scrambling to put some of his recent remarks in context amid accusations of racism.

As Speaker of the House in the early 90s, welfare reform was one of his signature issues, and improving poverty in America is part of his stump speech.

Though his comments are not always politically correct or well received by some groups, Newt doesn’t hold back when it comes to ethnic communities.

Such was the case yesterday in Plymouth, N.H.:

“And so I’m prepared if the NAACP invites me, I’ll go to their convention and talk about why the African American community should demand paychecks, not be satisfied with food stamps,” Gingrich said on a campaign visit.

If Gingrich wins the Republican nomination (an increasingly unlikely outcome), “I will make the key test very simple – food stamps versus paychecks.”

“Obama is the best food stamp president in American history. More people are on food stamps today because of Obama’s policies than ever in history,” he said.

“I would like to be the best paycheck president in American history.”

Gingrich stirred controversy last month over his comments about poor children having no work habits or people around them to teach them how to work.

He suggested that some school janitors should be fired and children should work part time within their school for money and “pride in their community.”

The Gingrich campaign immediately responded to criticism, saying his NAACP comments were an effort to reach out to the African American community.

The Gingrich campaign pointed to Gingrich’s book Real Change, in which Gingrich was critical of President Bush’s “failure to address the NAACP.”

The 68-year-old said it was a “clear signal to the African American community that Republicans did not see them as worthy of engagement in dialogue.”

Gingrich said he would reach out to any ethnic community that would listen.

“There’s no neighborhood I know of in America where if you went around and asked people, ‘Would you rather your children had food stamps or paychecks? You would end up with a majority saying they’d rather have a paycheck.”

Blowing smoke? Telling it like it is? Offensive? Refreshing? You tell us.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. Sentencing Delayed, Boxer Free to Fight

Ah, the life of a famous person. You can pretty much admit that you beat up the mother of your children… and then make a deal with a judge that allows you to fight for millions.

Such is the case for Floyd Mayweather Jr., who was sentenced to 90 days in prison last month on a domestic violence charge, but has now successfully postponed his jail time until June. This means he’ll be free to fight in Nevada on May 5.

“We are pleased that the judge granted postponement of Floyd’s surrender date so that he can fulfill his commitment to Las Vegas to deliver his promised mega-fight and the economic benefits it provides to the community,” said Leonard Ellerbe, a representative of the fighter.

No opponent has yet been named for the May 5 fight.

Mayweather will then begin serving his prison term on June 1. He must also complete 100 hours of community service and pay a $2,500 fine.

Demi Lovato Tweets to God: Really, Dude?!?

Demi Lovato has had a difficult year, and in the latest issue of Seventeen she opens up about all the people who have been there for her: Selena Gomez, Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus.

Notice one name missing from that list? God.

Demi Lovato on New Year's Eve

Indeed, the singer sort of went off on The Big Guy Upstairs yesterday, Tweeting:

“Sometimes it seems like God just keeps throwing crap my way and I get SO angry with him… But there’s never a doubt in my mind He’s gonna pull me through it all. I know you’re there God. But umm… Really dude? He never fails to show me He’s by my side though. Even in the tough times. #Godstuff”

Demi isn’t the first young star to openly bring up her faith, as Justin Bieber got a new tattoo this week of Jesus Christ.

Lovato later added, though, that she is not religious, but “VERY spiritual and I DO believe in God. I’m not perfect or preaching! Just tweeting…” and finally concluded the mini-rant on a positive, Nemo-related note:

Just keep swimming.

Second Casey Anthony Video Diary Surfaces

A second Casey Anthony video diary has evidently surfaced online. In this one, she has the same short hair, but darker locks, different glasses and a pierced nose!

So edgy!

The full diary hasn’t been posted, but a seven-second tease has, by a woman who also posted stills of it on Twitter. The full video is less than two minutes long.

Casey supposedly makes no mention of the infamous trial in which she was acquitted of killing her young daughter Caylee, or of Caylee herself, for that matter.

It’s unclear how the Casey Anthony video diaries (plural) leaked online, whether she was behind their release, where she filmed them, and how many there are.

“This is the first of many, and I’m looking forward to this,” Casey said in her first video, which is definitely her. “It’s a little scary, because I hate being on camera.”

Check out a snippet of Anthony’s latest video diary (below):

Pigeon Tries, Fails to Rest on Escalator

Pigeons.

These avian creatures of cities and suburbia go out of their way to fight their way indoors, where they clearly don’t belong but where it’s warm and dry.

But then, instead of settling in an ornamental tree or shrub, or just hanging out up in the rafters, they decide to rest on … the railing of an escalator?

Idiots.

Even funnier? Certain blondes don’t get how these things work either.
