Kathy Griffin Strips to Her Underwear in Times Square [Video]

New Year’s Eve telecasts were chock full of entertaining performances, from Justin Bieber to Selena Gomez.

But Kathy Griffin has stolen many of the headlines from these performers, not by belting out any notes… but by undoing her belt, along with other items of clothing.

Indeed, the comedian co-hosted CNN’s Time Square coverage alongside Anderson Cooper and shed most of her layers while the camera was capturing the crystal ball, confetti and thousands of revelers. When it returned, viewers were treated to the following awkward sight:

“Are you freaking kidding me?” Cooper asked, trying to stifle the sort of laughter that engulfed him a few weeks ago on live TV.

“I have a no-apology policy,” Griffin told CBS news hours after the broadcast. “No apologies for jokes. I apologize in my real life all the time. I say ridiculous things, I make mistakes constantly… But when I’m on stage, I’m at a microphone… it’s a joke!”

Katy Perry’s divorce from Russell Brand wasn’t due to a particular event or issue. The pair simply got married too fast and are too different, sources say.

They were infatuated with each other when they wed in October 2010, but had only been together about a year at that point, and things went south fast.

People close to the couple say Katy and Russell were head over heels for each other, fascinated to be with a great person who was an extreme opposite.

The problems came when the honeymoon phase wore off.

After they got married, they fought constantly, often in front of people at clubs and shows. They’re both stubborn and strong-willed, making things worse.

Their busy schedules didn’t help, as they never spent long periods of time with each other. In the end, despite their attraction, they were “just too different.”

Brand, who filed for divorce Friday, is more of a homebody than Katy, 27, who loves going out partying. Russell, 36, has been sober for years and didn’t enjoy the scene.

He would often voice his desire to stay in or leave places early, asking her to come with him, which would trigger arguments. So it went. Not a long-term match.

At the end of the day, neither hates the other, there’s no bad blood, and not even a hint of impropriety on either part. Just a mutual parting of ways.

Sad, but something a lot of people, famous or not, can relate to.

James Durbin, American Idol Alum, Marries Heidi Lowe


James Durbin rang in the new year in the most romantic way possible: the former American Idol finalist married long-time girlfriend Heidi Lowe!

Guests at the ceremony, which took place Saturday in Santa Cruz, California, included other past Idol favorites Haley Reinhart, Stefano Langone and Casey Abrams.

“We are so in love and happy that we got to share our special day with our closest family and friends,” Lowe and Durbin told People. “This wedding was the perfect way to kick off the New Year. We are looking forward to living happily ever after.”

Durbin and Lowe have a two-year old son named Hunter. He served as ring-bearer at the ceremony.

Tournament of THG: The 2011 Champion is …


The First Annual Tournament of THG has come to an end.

We began with 16 top stars in mid-December, with the simple mission of determining our readers’ favorite celebrity on THG. Your votes narrowed it down to Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato, who waged an epic championship round battle.

The margin was RAZOR-THIN: Just 50.1 percent for the champion and 49.9 for the runner-up. Could Lovatics carry their girl to victory, or would the Smilers prevail?

Demi Lovato, trailing by as much as five percent yesterday afternoon, rallied to pull off the slimmest of victories in a tight, see-saw battle. Unbelievable!!!!

Congratulations to Demi, and also to Miley and their respective fans on an amazing, close competition and a great run. With results that close, there is really no loser.

More importantly, thank you to all who voted in the finals and throughout the last several weeks! The Tournament of THG was a success and we are forever grateful.

Amber Portwood Commemorates New Year’s Eve in Crowded Jail Cell


Young stars such as Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga, Demi Lovato and Justin Bieber rang in 2012 with terrific live performances last night. Countless others partied.

Amber Portwood crashed on the floor of a jail cell.

According to law enforcement sources, Indiana’s Madison County Jail did not do anything to mark NYE. Visiting hours were 7:00-7:30 p.m. Amber had none.

At least she wasn’t alone. Due to overcrowding, Amber has been transferred out of the cell she shared with one other inmate and into a room with several others!

Portwood’s prison pals’ convictions range from probation violations – which is what’s keeping Amber in jail for a month – to dealing a controlled substance. Nice.

The accommodations were less than luxurious. As part of moving into that large room, instead of a bed, she slept on a vinyl mattress on the concrete floor.

This is what happens when you’re arrested AND fail to comply with terms of your probation, kids … onerous tasks such as passing drug tests and obeying laws.

As we look ahead to a new year:

  • Glass half full: Things can only get better in 2012!
  • Glass half empty: Maybe not. We said that a year ago after she spent Christmas in jail in 2010. She and Jenelle Evans often find a way to lower the bar.

Tabloid: John Edwards Seeks to Postpone Trial Due to Heart Attack, Fear of Death!


“HELP ME, I’M DYING!” – John Edwards, according to the National Enquirer

Ever since the aforementioned gossip publication correctly reported the former politician’s career-ending affair with Rielle Hunter and subsequent love child scandal, they have continued to pursue its aftermath, with questionable accuracy.

The latest angle: Edwards wants to postpone his upcoming federal trial on corruption charges because he had a heart attack and feels he might die!

“John fell apart in front of a pal after returning from a jog and was afraid he’d die,” says a close source. “His heart began pounding and he was having la­bored breathing.”

“He had many symptoms of a major heart attack and fears he will die.”

The former presidential candidate really did file to postpone his January 30 trial because of an “unex­pectedly encountered a medical issue” that will make it “extraordinarily difficult,” allegedly for him to appear in court for his trial.

While the details of his medical situation were filed under seal and can’t be re­ported to the public, a close friend revealed that Edwards was telling pals (he still has friends!) he was suffer­ing from “sleep apnea” and “migraine headaches.”

Sources confirm he does have the potentially deadly sleeping disorder, but the Enquirer insists the chest pains and shortness of breath terrified him.

“John has been very depressed with the upcoming trial and particularly down in the dumps with the holiday season and his young children having to deal with the first anniversary of his wife’s death on December 7,” said the source.

Under tremendous stress, Edwards had “also been drinking too much.”

Selena Gomez Rings in 2012 with Live NYC Performance


It’s unofficial, but Selena Gomez may have put on the very first live performance of 2012. At least in the Eastern Time Zone.

Very soon after confetti dropped on top of over one million party-goers in Times Square, this 19-year old sensation took to the stage inside MTV’s New York City headquarters and belted out a version of “Love You Like a Love Song.” Watch her in action now:

Gomez was far from the only performer to play a fun role on New Year’s Eve. She was joined in the same location by her boyfriend, in fact, who is included in the following list of performances from last night:

Demi Lovato New Year’s Eve Performance: Watch Now!


Demi Lovato pulled double duty for MTV last night.

The artist, who had one of the best years of any celebrity, according to THG readers, hosted that network’s New Year’s Eve celebration alongside Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey. She also performed her latest single, “Give Your Heart A Break,” in front of a raucous crowd. Watch and listen below:

Lovato joined a slew of other singers across the country last night, all of whom helped ring in 2012 on stages situated in Hollywood, Las Vegas and New York City.

Nicki Minaj, for example, danced around to the hit “Turn Me On” as part of Dick Clark’s Rockin New Year’s Rockin’ Eve special.
