One is shaggy-haired, the other closely-cropped.

One raps and sings pop songs, the other prefers ballads.

But there’s one thing Justin Bieber and David Archuleta have in common: an adoring fan base of teenage girls.

Both these artists have been in the news this week – Bieber for breaking a YouTube record previously held by Lady Gaga; Archuleta for announcing the release date for his new album – and it got us thinking: Could you choose between these young stud muffins?

Just a few hours before she took took the stage for the American Idol finale in May, Crystal Bowersox and her boyfriend broke up.

In an extensive interview with the August issue of Redbook, the singer wants to make one thing very clear: don’t point any fingers at her ex, Tony.

“I want to make clear how amazing, kind, and generous a person he is, and that he truly considers my son his son and little Tony loves him,” Crystal said. “He’s been there since my son was about 3 months old. And in a lot of ways, he’s the perfect man; he really is.

“But ultimately, we both knew it wasn’t going to work out, considering the different lives we were leading. And it’s better to come to that realization than to have an unhappy relationship. Mommy and Daddy need to be happy in order for baby to be happy.”

Bowersox, who fell to Lee DeWyze in the finals of the competition, touched on a number of other topics, as well. To wit:

On almost quitting Idol: I did go talk to Ryan [Seacrest] at one point because he works 24/7 and I knew he would understand. He gave me the best advice: He said the best thing I could ever do was work hard enough now so I could take care of my family. And it’s true. Sometimes you have to work really hard and make sacrifices so you can provide for the people you love.

On her hospitalization: You want to forget you’re diabetic for a while, and maybe you don’t watch yourself as well as you should. I ended up getting sick in March, and they told me I was off the show. I wasn’t going to take that. I begged, I screamed, I pleaded. I said, ‘I want to meet with the head honchos. I need this so bad for my kid. I’ll go home if I’m voted off, but not because of this.’ That’s the one time I threw a huge fit, and thankfully, they gave in.

We were big fans of Crystal throughout the show and we wish her the best of luck.

Lauren Conrad is going rogue.

The L.A. Candy author says that for her next work of literary mastery, she’s planning a darker spinoff of sorts featuring one of her current characters.

“I’m going to take Madison from the book and do a darker series,” she said at The Hills finale party. “I already wrote a little bit and it was really fun.”

L.A. Candy focuses on Jane Roberts, a young woman who moves to Hollywood, gets a job with an event planner and eventually lands a reality show.

That all sounds vaguely familiar …

For Lauren Conrad, L.A. Candy is art imitating life. Or The Hills.

Like LC, Jane isn’t always happy with her fame and the attention it brings, while her friend Madison takes the opposite approach and just eats it up.

Again, feels like we’ve heard this somewhere.

“I think it would be really fun to do it the other way, with someone who loves it,” Conrad said. “Someone who loves fame and plays the game well.”

She certainly has enough real-life material to draw on.

Lauren is still working on the third book in the Candy series, but we’re already looking forward to reading the exploits of crazy Heidi Montag … er, Madison.

Earlier this year, Ali Larter received great news: Heroes was canceled by NBC!

Now, just when it seemed like her year couldn’t get any better, the actress has even more exciting news to share: she’s pregnant!

“Ali is ecstatic,” a friend told Star Magazine of the pregnancy. “She and [husband Hayes MacArthur] are absolutely over the moon about it. They have wanted a baby for what seems like forever and now their dream is coming true.”

Guess we know how these two celebrated Larter’s freedom from the aforementioned terrible drama!

Jenni “JWoww” Farley has confessed her undying love for Leonardo DiCaprio. “I’ve had such a huge crush on him since What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,” the bodacious brunette said, referring to the hunky actor’s 1993 hit film, at the Jersey Shore soundtrack album release party at New York club Marquee on July 13. Despite lusting for Leo, JWoww is still happily dating manager/ boyfriend Tom Lippolis. “He’s very supportive and he doesn’t get into the limelight. He lets me enjoy it,” the reality starlet told In Touch. Though she’s coupled up, JWoww seemed to have a ladies’ night with best friend Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi at the bash, chugging Three-O Vodka and dancing up a storm. If only Kendra Wilkinson knew she’d be this successful of an author, she could have refrained from showing us all her O-Face on camera.

Incredibly, the former Girl Next Door’s memoir will sit at number-four on The New York Times Bestseller’s list when its new edition comes out next week.

On the red carpet of the ESPY Awards, she expressed joy and shock over that accomplishment to TV Guide, adding that book signing attendees seem truly moved by “Sliding Into Home.”

“Honestly, it’s like a therapy session when they come to meet me,” she says. “They circle their favorite chapters and they say, ‘This is what relates to me in my life, and thank you so much because I survived all that.’

“That’s why it’s so easy to talk about. People are like ‘You lived a crazy life – do you regret it?’ I’m like ‘No!’ Because if it wasn’t for everything I experienced, I wouldn’t be here with my husband and my son. I mean, I lived my life. I’m 25 and I still have a lot to live, but I lived a crazy teenage life, on through the Playboy Mansion years.”

Let’s all get on our knees for Justin Bieber.

No, not for that reason.

But to bow down to this singer for reigning over YouTube with the most-watched video in that site’s history.

The 16-year old set that record this week, as the website confirms his video for “Baby” overtook Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” for the top spot. As of this writing, it’s been viewed 246,295,440 times. That’s simply astounding.

The Mel Gibson tapes are disturbing and reveal a terrible temper, but Oksana Grigorieva is still lacking for evidence that the actor physically attacked her.

Until now … maybe.

Earlier this morning, Radar Online posted a photo of Oksana taken hours after she claims Gibson punched her in the face during a January 6 altercation.

The image is part of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department’s ongoing investigation of the deeply troubled actor, who may face domestic violence charges.

It’s also being used by Oksana in her custody battle with Mel over their eight-month-old daughter Lucia. You can see the awful photo for yourself here.

The question is: Did Mel Gibson do it?

Not necessarily. Oksana says he punched her twice in the mouth, knocking out her teeth and giving her a concussion. But is the pic consistent with that claim?

According to TMZ, Oksana’s teeth were not damaged, despite her dentist submitting in a declaration that one veneer was knocked out and another damaged.

Experts who have analyzed the photos believe that Grigorieva’s injury is inconsistent with being punched in the mouth since there is no soft tissue damage.

In other words, it may have been self-inflicted and this is a shakedown.

There is “no evidence of external or internal damage,” a law enforcement source told the celebrity gossip site. Mel has denied physically attacking Oksana.

Gibson’s lawyers are expected to accuse Oksana of trying to extort Mel out of more than $10 million in return for keeping the tapes of his tirades private.

As for the rant in which Mel apparently admits beating Oksana, telling her she deserved it after she referenced him punching her, that’s questionable too.

Mel’s legal team wants taped rants thrown out as evidence because of “strong evidence” they were edited and tampered with … it’s all extremely weird.

Basically, the Gibson tapes are what they are – in terms of vulgarity, and proving in chilling detail that one of Hollywood’s biggest stars needs serious help.

But there’s also so much we don’t know: Why he is SO angry? Were the recordings altered? Is her injury really self-inflicted? Will either face charges?

That we’ll have to wait and see.

Danielle Staub is a total fraud and liar!

So claims the guy that put it to her on video.

In a lawsuit filed yesterday in Morris County Superior Court, Stephen Zalewski takes issue with hilarious lies comments Staub made a couple episodes ago on The Real Housewives of New Jersey, as she claimed she was filmed having sex without her knowledge.

Zalewski’s attorney says he’s in possession of text messages and emails that prove Danielle was in on the tape – not to mention the actual video itself, in which Staub talks and poses for the camera at every turn.

Watch it now… at your own risk.

Here’s to being a heinous individual!

The lawyer says Staub’s “damage [the] reputation” of his client, which implies Stephen Zalewski has any kind of reputation. Adds the sex tape director himself:

“I have people come up to me in restaurants telling me I’m going to hell, I’m not a good person. I try to explain to people I didn’t do anything wrong. She would send me video texts of her playing with herself, I have nothing to do with that.”

This is funny for two reasons:

1. Who the heck would recognize Stephen Zalewski in public?!?
2. Even if someone did, why would this person spit such vitriol in his direction for a Danielle Staub sex tape?!?

In closing, Zalewski tells Radar Online: “Basically I want her to stop lying and ruining people’s lives, she’s really out of her mind, there’s something wrong with her. She plays the victim and says everyone is out to get her, but it’s really the other way around.”

Finally, a statement that makes sense.

The-Dream and Christina Milian ended The-Marriage earlier this week … officially. In truth, it was over a long time ago (even though it began in September).

In an open letter on his website, he finally acknowledges as much, claiming he tried to commit suicide when he realized his marriage with the singer was over.

“I’ve cried about this for months, after interviews, after prayer and I’ve tried to take my own life at a point because of the failure that was looming,” he wrote.

Nowhere does he mention creepin’ on random hoes.

Did The-Dream really try to commit suicide?

Not sure if he’s serious about the whole suicide thing, but that’s pretty scary if so. Get help, Dream. Hope is not lost. This doesn’t have to be The-End.

In his letter, The-Dream also apologizes to fans for “misleading everyone” into believing his marriage was fine for the past few months … when in reality he was, “simply scared and embarrassed to let everyone know we were failing.”

But, he writes: “This too shall pass! And everything will be fine!”

We hope so, for both of their sakes, and their daughter’s.
