They say silence is golden. In this case, think Fort Knox golden.

We reported yesterday evening that the Tiger Woods divorce is final, or nearly final, and that his estranged wife Elin could receive a $750 million settlement.

Today, additional sources say that while nothing has been officially filed, lawyers for both sides are close to reaching an agreement for “about $700 million.”

That mammoth sum, which entails Elin Woods keep all details of Tiger’s life and cheating scandal confidential, has grown as negotiations have progressed.

Elin has balked at the confidentiality clause, and thus driven up the price, not because she has a strong desire to tell all, but because it’s a bargaining chip.

Smart woman.

HARD BARGAIN: Elin Woods sure is driving one.

While Tiges really does not want his wife to give any interviews or write a book about their life together, child custody has also been a contentious issue.

“Elin does not want Tiger to have female friends around when he has the children,” a source tells People magazine. “She will not give in to anything less.”

As far as who gets the kids when, Tiger has asked for one weekend a month, but with frequent golf travel, some flexibility may be required from both.

Instead of taking one weekend a month, he could have Sam and Charlie for a long stretch, then not again for a few months, dependent on his schedule.

For her part, Elin is tired of the media scrutiny and wants to relocate to Sweden, where she hails from and eventually wants the children to be educated.

She has an estate in the Stockholm archipelago complete with a beach, dock, sauna and four separate houses, near family and longtime school friends.

If Tiger agrees to that, she will also likely keep a second home in Jupiter, Fla., convenient to Woods’s nearly completed $80 million Jupiter Island estate.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off feels a lot less funny all of a sudden.

Jeffrey Jones, the actor best known for playing Principal Ed Rooney in that classic comedy, was arrested last week on a felony charge after he failed to update his registration as a sex offender.

Yes, the man that tried to chase down Matthew Broderick’s character in that 1986 movie pleaded no contest to having a 14-year old boy pose seductively for him in 2003. As a result, he was forced to register, visit a counselor and complete five years’ probation.

On June 23, Jones was apprehended after he did not renew his California registration within the five days of his previous birthday. It’s the second time the troubled actor has faced an arrest after his initial charges.

He failed to inform authorities of a move in 2004.

Can we put this guy behind bars now please?!?

Despite having a baby girl just over a month ago, Teresa Giudice tells the latest issue of In Touch Weekly she’s never been happier with her body.

Of course, the breast enhancement surgery she underwent last year helps a great deal with that confidence. Teresa told the tabloid:

“I just got them done last summer, so this is my first time wearing a bikini and I have to say, this is the happiest I have ever been with my body. I feel like I have the whole package!”

What else went into this package, aside from silicone? The Real Housewives of New Jersey star dished on a number of weight-related topics:

How much does she weigh? I hardly ever weigh myself, but I do fit back into most of the clothes I wore before I had Audriana. I think I’m a 27 jean size and size 4 in dresses.

Does she diet? I’m never on a diet. I always eat what I want. When I was pregnant, I had to eat anything that was in front of my face. It’s an Italian thing — they say if you see something and don’t eat it, your baby will get a birthmark!

As their tumultuous and utterly predictable split continues to play out in public, Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi will discuss it Monday on The Bachelorette.

The duo sat down with their former host-pimp Chris Harrison to talk about the split for the July 5 segment, and let’s just say it’s as ugly as it is contrived.

A sneak peek of the interview reveals no big Bachelorette spoilers – just dueling accusations and blaming one another for the demise of a fake relationship.

Asked why they made the breakup so public, Vienna said: “Either way, our relationship had been public. No matter how we broke up, this had to happen.”

Right. There was no other option.

“The world was going to want to know,” she said. “I know Jake and I knew as soon as we broke up he was going to run to a media outlet and tell his side. I just wanted to make sure I had a voice also. I haven’t had a voice this entire time.”

Jake responds … well, presumably. The clip we have here doesn’t show that part, but he reportedly gets so pissed at her that makes a fist at Vienna at one point.

Girardi’s accusations are consistent with what she’s been saying all along, though – that he’s a fame whore who misled her. Dude doesn’t even put out!

Chris Brown defenders are not gonna like this one bit.

The singer received a lot of attention, both good and bad, for his tearful tribute to MJ at the BET Awards Sunday. As he sang “Man in the Mirror,” Chris broke down.

The display of Brown channeling Michael Jackson and the lyrics hitting close to home united fans in support. Queen Latifah openly said Brown deserves forgiveness.

Yet an insider tells Us Weekly today that it was fake.

CROCODILE TEARS? The sincerity of Chris Brown’s display is debatable.

Before he took the stage, a backstage source says one of Brown’s bodyguards gave the singer tear-inducing eye drops: “He rubbed it in and he started crying.”

Brown’s rep denies it, telling Us that Brown simply “was moved by the opportunity to pay tribute to his idol.” But the witness says Brown definitely used drops.

We may never know for sure, but it’s not the biggest stretch in the world. Was Brown’s tribute a blatant ploy for positive PR or a sincerely moving homage?

Country music legend is admittedly biased, but she has a message for critics of Miley Cyrus:

Give the girl a break!

In an interview with Fox News, Parton is asked about the rebukes of Miley’s new image these days and says: “I’ve known her since she was a baby.” She then takes the same stance on digs directed at Cyrus as Miley herself takes on pants:

“I hate it when people criticize her,” Dolly says.

Parton continues to praise her “honorary goddaughter,” adding: “She is a great singer; she has a great voice. She’s a great little entertainer and she can speak to you like she is 50 years old.”

We guess that’s true. At least if 50 year-olds are known for spouting Hallmark card-like cliches about love and life.

In closing, Dolly seems to at least acknowledge that Miley’s new CD has been a bust on the charts, but the singing legend takes a grander, positive view of her young pal:

“She’ll land in the right place. I really know she has everything it takes. She is just trying to find her way and she will.”

Those words sound eerily similar to what some people said about Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan back in the day. Let’s hope Miley’s path ends in a different location from that of those two trainwrecks.

Britney Spears is the subject of a new investigation following a former bodyguard’s alleging that she abused her two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.

However, inside sources say that the troubled pop star and her management are not concerned over the claims made by Fernando Flores in the UK’s Sun.

Flores says he told investigators that Spears beat one of her sons with a belt and fed them food they were allergic to which in turn made them violently ill.

He also claimed he had no choice but to resign from the job as a result of her “erratic” behavior (he said he was subject to Britney Spears nude come-ons).

Team BS says the child abuse allegations are … well, BS.

“(Flores’ claims) are simply not true,” says a Spears source. “There are always people around Britney, nannies and such. She is never alone with the boys.”

“She would never have the opportunity to do something like that. She’s very loving of the kids. Neither she nor [manager] Larry Rudolph, are worried.”

Another source, who previously worked with the starlet, agreed that Britney Spears is the target of a bitter former employee upset by the loss of his job.

“Britney may have been a little out of control sometimes but never would harm her babies, never in a million years would she hurt them,” said the insider.

Although the Department of Children and Family Services were regulars at Britney’s home years ago, she is now “totally clean” with the department.

Also, as of Wednesday, they were unaware of Flores’ request for investigation into the matter, despite the former bodyguard’s claim that he told them.

Suspect as Britney Spears’ parenting skills are, it’s hard to give this credibility. Instead, let’s focus on happier topics, like her new Candie’s clothing line!

The Bachelorette star Ali Fedotowsky may have hinted that she ends up alone after this season, but could she just be playing it coy? That’s Us Weekly‘s theory.

The celebrity gossip publication “confirms” (term used very loosely) there’s a proposal on the season finale – and the gorgeous Massachusetts native accepts!

For all we know, it’s a proposal by Chris Harrison to join him for a glass of water during a five-minute break from filming – but congratulations in any case!

“She’s already thinking about the details,” a source says – and she’s SO excited! “She did the show because she was ready to settle down and get married.”

Us claims the former Facebook ad rep is planning a West Coast wedding in early 2011. Who’s the lucky guy? The anonymous sources aren’t saying, natch.

Is Ali Fedotowsky really engaged – and to whom?

Unlike that stiff Jake Pavelka, who gushed about being engaged throughout the season, Ali’s remarks have been of the “I’m happy with my decision” variety.

Some believe that’s code for “I’m still single.”

Reports that Ali Fedotowsky is already dating some other guy (Patrick Hammon) also cast doubt on any Bachelorette engagement stories, don’t you think?

We’re obviously not in the know as far as the specifics, but our gut reaction is to call BS on this story. There are only vague details and no sourced quotes.

It’s no longer a question reserved for Twihards, or pop culture followers in general. Supreme Court Justice nominee Elena Kagan was actually asked which side she’s on during confirmation hearings this week.

But forget future judges. On which end of this debate do Jersey Shore stars and country singers fall? A handful of celebrities were asked to pledge their allegiance to Edward or Jacob this week and replied with the following:

Snooki: I’m Team Edward just because he’s very sexy, but then again, I’m Team Jacob because he has potential guido status.

The Situation: I don’t think I’m on any team on that one because I like women. But on the other hand, I am fans of them both, I think they’re both great actors.

Julianne Hough: I’m in love with Edward.

Martina McBride: Well, Edward’s really cute, I think he’s very romantic, but I think probably Jacob is a healthier relationship. He seems to care. He’s not as obsessive. It’s a little more well-rounded.

Jesse James isn’t about to let a little thing like divorce get in the way of his attempts to reconcile with Sandra Bullock. Although the pair finalized their divorce at the end of June after their marriage of nearly five years collapsed in March following In Touch’s explosive revelations of Jesse’s infidelity, the 41-year-old motorcycle customizer still thinks he has a chance at reuniting with his ex-wife. “Not only is Jesse buying a home in Austin, Texas, to be closer to Sandra and her son, Louis, he wants to buy another property in New Orleans near her home there,” an insider tells In Touch. “Jesse claims he wants to be closer to Sandra so she can see his kids, but he’s tugging the heartstrings to try to win her back,” the insider adds. “He knows she loves his kids, especially his daughter Sunny.” But while Jesse may get some sympathy from Sandra, 45, her family is another story. “They’ve yet to speak to Jesse and they tell Sandra they’ll never be able to forgive him,” says the insider. “She’s torn between not disappointing her family and not seeing his kids. She’s trapped.”
