How Melissa stays in “TV shape”!
June 18, 2010
She’s been on the small screen since she was a teen, and with a new series coming this summer, mom-of-two Melissa Joan Hart is still in fighting form. “I’m trying really hard to get in ‘TV shape,’ as I like to call it. You’ve got to be healthy and toned, but you’ve got to be a little on the skinny side because the camera does add pounds, and people are very harsh,” Melissa, the star of the upcoming ABC Family show Melissa & Joey, tells In Touch.
So how does the mother of Mason, 4, and Brady, 2, look her best? “I’ve been eating really healthy. I’m doing my protein shakes again, doing fish and chicken and veggies, and really trying to avoid the starches and dairy,” she says. Not a fan of hitting the treadmill, the former Sabrina the Teenage Witch actress has turned to the great outdoors for her fitness regimen. “I joined the rowing club in our town, and I’ve been rowing a lot, which has been wonderful,” Melissa says. “It’s a full body workout — it’s amazing!”
Melissa is also relishing the chance to pass on her healthy eating habits to her boys. “Instead of having ice cream, I pull out a Tree Top applesauce, those disposable ones that you can bring to the beach or pack in a school lunch. They feel like they’re getting a treat, but at the same time, you know that they’re on the safer side of things,” she says. The fit star is also teaming up with Tree Top to encourage her fans to create recipes using Tree Top apple juice and applesauce to cut the fat — and for a chance to win a trip to the Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival.
