Britney Spears’ Conservatorship: Will it Continue?

June 3, 2010

Britney Spears will have a conservatorship status hearing in a Los Angeles courtroom today, and some have speculated she will try to reclaim her life then.

That sounds dramatic, but it’s pretty much what’s at stake. Her dad Jamie Spears has the final say over her medical, financial and career affairs indefinitely.

It all dates back to early 2008, when her behavior became so erratic that a judge decreed Jamie would have ultimate control over the superstar’s affairs.

This decision worked wonders for Spears, who has returned to music prominence and a semblance of normalcy too. But how long is too long for this to go?

Rumblings that Britney wants out have surfaced for months.

Still Sort of a Mess

FREE BRITNEY? Is Spears capable of making her own decisions?

While some of the rumors are likely untrue – she’s not allowed to be alone with her kids, he instituted a bra policy, etc. – Britney and Jamie have been at odds.

Says a source: “It seems highly unlikely that the conservatorship will end by the end of summer. Britney’s just not ready, yet. She has good and bad days.”

“Britney has complex,” the insider continues. “Issues on both a personal and professional level, and that is the reason the conservatorship is still in place.”

It’s all moot to a degree. L.A. Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz is the sole person who can determine if and when the conservatorship will end.

When that time comes, a formal hearing will take place, and if the commissioner has enough evidence to support ending the conservatorship, she will.

At the appropriate time. Is that now? Unlikely.

Nicole Kidman is terrified of the sun

NicoleKidman0603.jpg

Filming Just Go With It in tropical Maui, Hawaii, fair skinned Nicole Kidman has turned to SPF 100 to protect her flawless skin! While her co-star Jennifer Aniston has been seen working on her tan on the spectacular local beaches, Nicole avoids the intense sun with floppy hats, sunglasses and a specially formulated super strong sunscreen to keep her skin milky white. “Nicole does not tan, and working in the intense sun in Hawaii has been a challenge for her,” a movie insider reveals. “She’s been a really good sport about it all, but she has begged the director to keep her out of the sun as much as possible.” Despite being from sundrenched Australia, Nicole is no fan. “Her face is her fortune, and she protects it,” says a pal.

Royal Pains star: I challenge Glee’s Mr. Schu to a rap battle!

Move over, Kanye and 50 Cent! There’s a new rap rivalry: Glee’s Mr. Schu better watch out for the “Two Live Jew”! Royal Pains star Mark Feuerstein is getting rave reviews for the commercial spot in which he raps about his hit USA Network show — and now he’s ready to take on another of TV’s wannabe emcees! “I’m ready to go head-to-head with Mr. Schuester from Glee!” Mark tells In Touch, in reference to Matthew Morrison’s character, who’s rapped along to “Ice Ice Baby” and “Bust A Move” on the Fox musical comedy. “I’ll take him down, any time, any place, you let it be known — let’s have a freestyle beat-down breakdown!”

Rapping has long been an interest of the 38-year-old actor, who also rhymed under the hip-hop name “Two Live Jew” in the Royal Pains “wrap rap” viral video last year. Says Mark, “When I was in seventh grade, I had a bunch of break-dancers come from 125th Street [in NYC] to break-dance at my bar mitzvah party, so I’ve always had a little hip-hop in me. But now, I finally get to let it out!”

Meet Mark and his Royal Pains co-stars today at NYC’s Greeley Square (39 W. 32 St. at 6th Avenue), where they’ll be kicking off the Royal Pains Summer Shirt Exchange, where consumers can exchange their gently used summer shirts and in turn receive a Lacoste gift card redeemable for a new shirt at any Lacoste boutique. For every shirt collected, USA will donate $10 to Doctors Without Borders, the international medical humanitarian organization. Royal Pains premieres tonight on USA at 10 p.m. ET.

Rue McClanahan dies

Rue0603.jpg

Golden Girls star Rue McClanahan died of a massive stroke on the morning of June 3, with her family at her side. She was 76 years old. The beloved actress had suffered a minor stroke earlier this year after heart-bypass surgery. Rue, who started in regional theater, got her big break when she was cast as Bea Arthur’s best friend on Maude in the 1970s. In the 1980s, she and Bea teamed up again, along with Betty White and Estelle Getty, for the hit show Golden Girls, for which she earned an Emmy for her role as Southern sexpot Blanche Devereaux in 1987. Rue, who was married six times, wrote a memoir in 2007 called My First Five Husbands … And the Ones Who Got Away. “Rue was a close and dear friend. I treasure our relationship. It hurts more than I ever thought it would, if that’s even possible,” Betty, who is now the last living Golden Girl, told Entertainment Tonight.

BS Report: Sandra Bullock Planning Baby #2!!

If you thought the Kardashian girls had a monopoly on possibly fake baby news this week, think again: Sandra Bullock is reportedly planning for a second already!

At least according to In Touch Weekly!

While cheating husband Jesse James tries to worm his way back into her life by any means necessary (including guilty trips from his kids), Sandra’s moved on.

She just adopted baby son Louis with James, but will raise him solo after divorcing his ass – and according to the magazine, Louis will be getting a sibling soon!

She’s “planning a little sister,” whatever that entails. Note how In Touch also teases “pictures of the baby.” This means Louis, not his fictional, would-be sister.

Gotta love shoddy tabloid reporting …

Baby #2 For Sandra!

#1 IS ENOUGH: If Sandra Bullock were really pregnant or planning a second adoption already, we’d certainly be happy for her – but we’d also be extremely surprised.

Mark Paul Gosselaar’s sad split

MarkPaul0603.jpg

Promoting his new TNT series Franklin & Bash at an Armani Exchange/ Elle magazine event on May 25, Mark-Paul Gosselaar seemed a far cry from Zack Morris, his fun-loving character on Saved by the Bell. “He looked somber,” an insider tells In Touch. “He and his wife are separated,” adds the insider about the actor, who married his wife, Lisa Ann Russell, 13 years ago after she guest-starred on Saved by the Bell: The College Years. Recently, Lisa has been spotted out “partying around LA,” the insider says, while Mark-Paul has been staying home with their children, Michael, 6, and Ava, 4. “He’s taking it very hard,” the insider adds. Mark-Paul used to be the one out partying after he became a teen idol starring on Saved by the Bell. But after marrying Lisa, “Having children made me mature,” he has said. Now, while Mark-Paul is focused on his children and his career comeback, Lisa seems to be on a different page. “This has been going on for quite some time now,” says the insider.

Miley Cyrus to Critics: You Just Don’t Get It!

As she goes around the globe, donning skimpy clothing and trying way too hard to prove she’s no longer an innocent Disney drone, Miley Cyrus has come under fire for… well, donning skimpy clothing and trying way too had to prove she’s no longer an innocent Disney drone.

But, in an interview with the BBC this week, Miley sent a message to critics that feel this way: suck it!

“They can think what they want,” she said. “Those are people who are just close-minded and don’t understand art.”

Look How Sexy I Am!

As for the criticism she’s received over the last couple years in general, Cyrus said:

“Everyone goes through a bad point in their life and makes bad choices. But they just haven’t been published and it hasn’t been documented on the Internet. You can see how that would drive people crazy. I would like to see you at 21 and video that and put that out there for people to comment on.”

As well-known Miley haters (to the maker of this video: you rule!), THG must respond with a few points:

  1. Miley, you are 17. Not 21. That’s a huge difference. Get back to us when you can vote, purchase tobacco, fight in a war, graduate from college and buy alcohol legally.
  2. If what you are doing is “art,” then Britney Spears is Picasso. You’re wearing tight leather outfits and singing about how hot you are and how every guy out there gives you “mad attention.” Get over yourself. You’re a cliched pop singer.
  3. It doesn’t matter what the average teenager would do, if his/her bad decisions were “published” or not. You’re not average. You’re a multi-millionaire, a global icon. Your defense for past actions boils down to: “Oh yeah? Well, everyone else does that, too!” That’s a lame cop-out for anyone to hide behind, let alone someone who is supposed to act in a responsible manner because she’s a role model to girls around the world… whether she chooses (or deserves) to be or not.

Rue McClanahan Passes Away at 76

Another one of TV’s Golden Girls is gone. Rue McClanahan has died at the age of 76.

She passed away at 1 a.m. this morning after suffering a stroke. She will be missed.

McClanahan, who played man-happy Blanche Devereaux on the still-popular ’80s sitcom, suffered a minor stroke this year recovering from bypass surgery.

Today, McClanahan “had her family with her. She went in peace,” her manager said.

Golden Girls ran from 1985-1992. Last year, McClanahan’s co-star, Bea Arthur died from cancer. Estelle Getty died in 2008, while the lone surviving star, Betty White, is currently enjoying a remarkable resurgence in her career at age 88.

R.I.P. Rue McClanahan (1934-2010).

Born in Healdton, Okla., Rue lived in six towns by the time she was 8. Her father was a builder who moved from one project to another. She found solace in acting.

After four years at the University of Tulsa, McClanahan moved to New York, where she worked as a part-time file clerk while trying to find jobs in the theater.

Her first job was off Broadway, in 1957, and she finally hit Broadway in 1969. TV work came after, but it wasn’t until Golden Girls that she truly found fame.

She was married six times, including to actor Morrow Wilson, whom she wed in 1997 and who survives her, as does a son, Mark Bish, from her first marriage.

Lady Gaga Reflects on Michael Jackson, Death, Collaboration That Could Have Been

Lady Gaga made many memorable remarks on Larry King Live this week, touching on subjects as diverse as testing positive for lupus and her own drug use.

But perhaps the most poignant topic of discussion was that she was set to duet with Michael Jackson on his This Is It tour last summer before Jackson died.

“I was actually asked to open for Michael at The O2 [arena],” she told Larry. “There was some talk about openers doing collaborations with Michael onstage.”

“Michael’s death was devastating for me regardless of whether or not I was supposed to tour with him. He is an inspiration and remarkable human being.”

On a somewhat related note, Gaga declared that she would “rather die onstage” than “under a palm tree” and also went on to explain her fixation on death.

Gaga For MJ

DEATH BECOMES HER: Lady Gaga has always had a fascination with tragic icons, and of morbidly shocking performances on stage. [Photo: PacificCoastNewsOnline.com]

It manifests itself as a recurring theme in her shows, and stems from a longtime idolization of such tragic icons as Princess Diana – and now Michael Jackson.

“My fascination with the demise of the celebrity goes along with me watching these hugely iconic and amazing people that I have heralded and admired my whole life become destroyed, whether self-destroyed or destroyed by the media,” she said.

But despite her obsession with the issue and envelope-pushing, blood-soaked performances, the outrageous star insisted, “I’m not interested in violence.”

Amputated legs? Perpetuating hermaphrodite rumors? Possibly. But violence, no. She’d never simulate her own murder on stage or anything like that.

Ahead on Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami: Scott Disick Nude, Angry, Scripted

We’ve gotta give credit to the writers of Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami.

After season one of this “reality” show concluded, they clearly came to a realization: Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian have the combined personality of a piece of pocket lint. They’re more boring than an episode of 90210.

That’s why producers have told Khloe to get pregnant, at least a baby would spice things up. It’s also also why season two of this E! series will focus on Scott Disick. Kourtney’s baby daddy knows how to deliver the drama!

Case in point: the alcohol-fueld tirade he goes on in the preview below, which tabloids claim led to a split between Kourtney and Scott. There’s just one problem: this footage was filmed months ago, meaning we already know the outcome: Kourt and Scott are just fine.

The same can’t be said for people that actually tune in watch this entirely scripted nonsense…
