We realize that as a show about women in fashion, MTV’s The City is bound to cross-promote certain magazines, designers and brands … but this is getting ridic.

It’s basically the Elle reality show at this point … this week’s title even had Elle in it. Bad as it is for Elle that Olivia Palermo works there, the PR volume makes up for it.

For us, too, it’s win-win. Olivia is painful, yet provides classic quotes (see headline).

Fortunately, MTV was a non-discriminatory cross-promoting media whore of a network last night, as The N.Y. Post‘s Page Six and Glamour got some love, too. But why?

Here’s THG’s plus-minus recap of last night’s The City, “The Belle of Elle” …

THE FACE OF ELLE: Only not really … or at all.

Joe stops by to ask Olivia if she wants to go to a party for Gossip Girl – more shills! – stylist Eric Daman. Plus 2, because we love us some GG and its trendy fashions.

Kelly informs Whitney Port that Glamour – cha-ching! – wants to do a full page on her line. Whitney wants to bring Roxy. Kelly advises no. Whit does anyway. Wash.

For a society girl, Olivia likes the attention she gets at the party way too much. Aren’t they supposed to not be impressed by anything, Blair Waldorf style? Minus 17.

Roxy’s LOL skirt look – “ballerina gone punk rock gone a little hooker, but in a good way” – is predictably not embraced by Glamour fashion director Sasha. Plus 10.

Kelly to Roxy Olin: “This business is made up of freaks and followers. I’m totally a freak. So you want to be a freak? That’s great but you pay the price.” Plus 14.

ROXY AND A HARD PLACE: Whitney is often caught in the middle.

Olivia, regarding Seth talking to Blake Lively and Leighton Meester: “I can talk to a park bench.” LOL. What does that even mean? Blake is a park bench? Minus 25.

Joe says that an Elle item made it in Page Six. Olivia perks up, only to learn that the so-called “Belle of Elle” is new fashion director Alexis. Served! Plus 17!

Erin gives Olivia a look, delighted by Olivia’s reaction as she learns it’s not her in the press. Wash, because that was sort of cold, but we don’t blame her … at all.

At a Bergdorf Goodman party, Whit is, like, so nervous, but meets with an exec at the women’s division and makes a pitch for her line like a seasoned vet. Plus 11.

Through it all, Roxy was left in the cold, and more or less useless, with no discernible purpose on the show. But at least she’s true to herself … we guess. Minus 2.

After over two years of dating, tennis star Serena Williams, 28, and rapper Common, 38, have split. “They just grew apart,” said a friend of the musician’s. The duo made a last public appearance in April at the New York premiere of Date Night, but Common was acting single on the Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage cruise while promoting the film Just Wright in mid-May. “He was a big hit with the ladies,” says a witness.

Last night’s Dancing with the Stars finale saw the coronation of a new champion, and also the return of some memorable cast members who aren’t quite as good.

When it comes to rhythm, Kate Gosselin is the anti-Nicole Scherzinger. While we give her credit for trying, last night’s effort was LOL worthy … especially the end.

The reality TV mom returned to the stage Tuesday after shilling for the revamped Kate Plus 8 and the new Twist of Kate (wonder if TLC paid for that ad) of course.

It was not pretty. The only thing worse than her dancing is her relentless whining in rehearsal – even after she insists she wants to have a better attitude, no less.

But the best part, however unintentionally? The end, in which Kate flew over the stage and stared awkwardly into a fish-eye lens. What was that supposed to be?

Who the heck knows, but it’s worth repeated viewing …

On a side note, by request: Would you hit it?

Bachelor star Jake Pavelka was eliminated early in this season of Dancing With the Stars, but he made a triumphant return during last night’s finale dancing a beautiful waltz with fiancé Vienna Girardi. “It was incredible, ” Jake told In Touch after the performance. “I really enjoyed dancing with Chelsie [Hightower], but getting to dance with my fiancé took the cake.”

Chelsie gave Vienna a high score. “She did an amazing job,” said the pro dancer. “She looked like a natural out there.” Especially since she only had a week to practice! “I was absolutely nervous,” Vienna told In Touch. “I kept saying, ‘I’m not ready yet, I haven’t had enough rehearsal, I can’t do this.’” Luckily, Jake had some words of encouragement. “He said, ‘When you get out there, pretend the audience isn’t there,’” Vienna said. “‘Focus on me and on having fun.’ And that’s what I did – I had fun with it.”

The next time this couple waltzes, they could be man and wife – they’ve been engaged seven months, so lots of plans are already afoot. “I found my shoes,” Vienna revealed. “They are Jimmy Choos with crystals all over them. I came home the other day and said, ‘I know there is no date or place, but I have the shoes.’ That is literally the first step!”

The couple also insist there are two things that won’t be part of the big day: roses and the Bachelor theme song, “On the Wings of Love.” “We love the song,” admitted Vienna, “but we have danced to it enough. This is the second finale we have danced to that song!”

And even though she’s still got so much to prepare for as a bride, Vienna hasn’t ruled out a DWTS turn for herself. “If it was to come, absolutely. We’d discuss it, of course, and make the decision together. They haven’t asked, but I am really jealous. I can’t believe he got to do this for the last two-and-a-half months – I want to do it. It was a blast,” she said.

“Oh my gosh, they took me away from you – now they want to take you away from me?” asked Jake. “It’s payback!” Vienna joked.

It’s official: Kendra is exposed!

The Kendra Wilkinson sex tape goes on sale today, which may explain why so many men around your office are covering their computers right about now.

But despite the racy, gnarly footage on Kendra Exposed, sources say it won’t negatively affect Wilkinson’s marriage to Hank Baskett.

“This happened when she was young… She told him about this before they got married,” a friend told Radar Online. “She was young and was in love with her boyfriend and thought she was going to marry him and it just didn’t turn out that way.”

Know what else might help Hank deal with the tape? The $680,000 Kendra has already received in exchange for its release.

With 50% of the profits headed into the couple’s pockets, perhaps Baskett can feel better about the fact that he’s an unemployed wide receiver right now.

“They are going to be just fine,” the source concluded.

And rich. Very, very rich.

We’ve already seen several clips of Jesse James baring his soul to Good Morning America and Nightline, but they saved the strongest revelation for the full interview.

Last night, James admitted that he was the victim of abuse as a child, and that the shame of that drove him to cheat on Sandra Bullock and destroy their marriage.

Anybody buying it?

“I was a terrorized kid,” James said of beatings from his dad.

“I was petrified of my dad,” he continued. “It wasn’t so much getting the $h!t beat out of me or getting my arm broken or getting kicked or whatever or punched, it was all the in-between time. It was the fear of that happening again.”

As a result of his lack of self-worth, he said, “I grew up with a huge amount of shame and fear and abandonment on my shoulders from a very young age, and I think, you know, the way my mind rationalized [cheating].”

Is Jesse James’ troubled past to blame for his troubled present?

“‘I thought, ‘Well, you know, I might as well do whatever I can to, like, run her off, ’cause she is going to find out what I am anyway and leave me anyway.’”

Again … anybody buying it?

Jesse James, who says he wanted to get caught, added, “The struggle within myself for the things that I did … to damage marriage and my life, it’s all me. I’m doing this because, you know, I’ve basically never felt good enough for anyone.”

“He beat my ass pretty good a bunch of times,” James said of his father, Larry, who raised him after his parents divorced. “I just remember, like, the clinched teeth, a strained-neck look on his face. My whole childhood, I was always scared.”

Larry James tells ABC his son’s allegations of abuse are not true. Regardless, do you view Sandra’s soon-to-be-ex in a different light since these interviews?

Do you forgive Jesse?

Either way, child abuse is no joke, and we certainly feel bad for James. Blaming his behavior on it may be suspect, but the emotional scars may never heal.

Country singer and former Celebrity Rehab patient Mindy McCready is in the hospital after her mother, Gayle Inge, reportedly found her unconscious, called 911 and suggested that her daughter had overdosed after taking the pain pill Darvocet for a broken toe. But Mindy’s Celebrity Rehab roommate Mackenzie Phillips tells In Touch exclusively she doesn’t believe the star, who was visiting her 4-year-old son, Zander, at her mother’s house in Fort Myers, Fla., relapsed. “I find it suspicious that her mom gave her a strong medication for a broken toe and called 911 saying that she was overdosing,” Mackenzie says. “It also just seems a bit strange that this happened in the midst of a custody battle. Mindy was in Fort Myers to see her son, who is so important to her and whom she loves so much. I support her 100 percent. Dr. Drew supports her 100 percent, and I know that she is going to be fine and prevail.”

It didn’t take long for the aspiring trophy husbands of Ali Fedotowsky to be grilled about their motives, with Justin “Rated R” Rego in particular under scrutiny.

But Rego got a rose on The Bachelorette season premiere regardless, with Ali unaware that he’s the suitor strings her along despite dating other women back home.

Yes, we said women, plural. According to reports, Justin “Rated R” Rego has two girlfriends back in Canada, and the wrestler told both he’s only boosting his career.

Kimberly Kerekes tells Radar Online that she is one of the two – and supported his decision to deceive Ali Fedotowsky on the reality TV show to advance his career.

“I agreed to keep dating him because he told me it was to launch his career and it had nothing to do with actually falling in love,” Kimberly said … regretting it now.

Little did she know then that she was also being duped by Rego, who was dating Jessica Spillas – who blew the whistle on him, according to Bachelorette spoilers.

Rated R puts the moves on Ali Fedotowsky.

When she was contacted by her and questioned about her relationship with Justin, Kimberly says the ladies compared dates and timelines and realized it was him.

Kimberly said that Jessica contacted ABC about Justin – who reportedly makes it several episodes – and being his girlfriend only after she learned about Kimberly.

According to Radar, Ali will find out about the two women when she receives a call from Jessica Spillas and will show Justin “Rated R” Rego the exit around then.

Lamenting that she too was fooled, Kimberly said “he was under contract not to have another girlfriend so why would I think he would be with anyone but me?”

A fair question. Especially because, Kimberly says, Justin Rego was saying derogatory things about the beautiful blond Ali before he even went on the show.

“He told me that she really wasn’t his type and he actually said that she was kind of rude at the beginning of the show,” she said. Vienna can totally relate, huh.

“I do think things were avoided,” his mistress Michelle “Bombshell” McGee tells In Touch exclusively after watching the interview. “Like details of our affair. He seemed to gloss over everything and it was very generic.”

Jesse James‘ interview with Nightline on May 25 was billed as an explosive tell-all about his betrayal of wife Sandra Bullock, but the Monster Garage star was strangely unemotional and unapologetic about his bad behavior. “I do think things were avoided,” his mistress Michelle “Bombshell” McGee tells In Touch exclusively after watching the interview. “Like details of our affair. He seemed to gloss over everything and it was very generic.”

Although Jesse admitted that he “hurt” Sandra, Michelle is upset that he didn’t mention her: “What about the other people he hurt along the way? Even though I don’t expect to get an apology, at the very least, I was hoping for some sort of acknowledgment regarding the pain and embarrassment he caused myself and others.” Jesse claimed during the interview that deep down he wanted to get caught but Michelle isn’t buying it. “No,” she says. “He took every precaution NOT to get caught. I was only allowed to come up during after hours at the shop. We could never go get food – even at his own restaurant.”

The only time Jesse cried during the interview was when he blamed his father’s abuse during childhood for his affairs. “I do believe something happened with his dad,” Michelle tells In Touch. “He talked about it one night. He said he hadn’t talked to his Dad for years and he hated him.” However, she doesn’t think he should use his father as an excuse. “I believe people could react that way as a result of abuse, but is this the reason for cheating with multiple women? I’m not sure I’m convinced,” says Michelle.

Even though Jesse told Nightline he believes he and Sandra will get divorced “100 percent,” her friends worry that Sandra will fall for Jesse’s crocodile tears – and his mistress agrees. “I have my suspicions that they will be still together but out of the public eye,” Michelle tells In Touch.

Greyson Chance just took a big step toward becoming the next Justin Bieber.

The 12-year old YouTube sensation taped an appearance on Ellen this week (it airs today) and learned that the talk show host has started a new record label. Her first signee? Greyson Chance!

The company will be called “Eleveneleven” and Greyson will be co-managed by a pair of music heavyweights: Troy Carter (of Lady Gaga fame) and Madonna’s manager, Guy Oseary.

Speaking on his rise to fame, and the number of individuals that have watched him online, Chance said:

“It’s crazy thinking about 30 million people. It just makes me happy. It really just hasn’t sunken in yet.  It has been two weeks and it still hasn’t sunken in yet. It’s awesome.”
